Justice delayed is justice denied.
Rubber meets the roadblocks
Wow! The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) came through for Trump in spades! The Federal January 6 case with Judge Chutkin remains on hold. SCOTUS is going to take months instead of weeks to make their decision on Presidential immunity. This puts the federal January 6 case that Judge Chutkin is presiding over on hold for at least a couple of months or longer.
Apparently trying to overthrow our government isn’t all that big of a deal to them. Wonder why? The case should be a slam dunk. They could have not taken the case and let the appeals court decision stand.
For those that might not remember SCOTUS has moved quickly in the past. In the 2000 Gore/Bush Presidential election they declared President Bush the winner of the election in FIVE days.[1] President Bush made the request to have SCOTUS take the case on December 8th. The court said yes on December 9th. They heard arguments on December 11th. On December 12th the case was decided and Bush was declared the winner by them.
Meanwhile in Florida, Judge Cannon has been foot dragging as much as possible on the federal classified documents case. She has made rulings in the prosecution’s favor as Trump’s attorneys file frivolous motion after motion just as they are doing in other cases. There is no trial date yet and she said that a trial isn’t imminent.[2]
In the Georgia state election fraud case proceedings have been tied up over the Prosecuting Attorney Fani Willis having an affair with one of the other Prosecutors. Real high school drama stuff there.
If the rapist Trump is innocent, it begs the question why delay the trials? If he hadn’t sought all the delays some of these trials would already be over with or at least happening right now. It’s like he knows something.
Trump has a consciousness of guilt.
In the shadows
Ever heard of the shadow docket? Well, SCOTUS has one.[3] It’s also called the Emergency docket. It’s where cases are decided out of the light of day. During the Trump Administrations the court made 28 orders under the docket to block lower court rulings whereas during the Bush and Obama years there were only 4 such rulings combined.[4] The Trump SCOTUS ruled on a total of 41 cases.[5]
This is where the Trump Supremes can do a lot of their social engineering out of the public eye. They are busily creating a country in their own image. They are not representative of the hoi polloi. The most recent figures that I could find regarding their wealth is that the SCOTUS justices are mostly millionaires and/or multi-millionaires.[6] [7] [8] BTW the filings don’t provide totals just ranges. To know what the figures might be others have to add everything up to get some kind of idea as to what their finances might be from low to high estimates. Justices could be kind of wealthy, regular wealthy or real wealthy.
Their real income is also in the shadows.
SCOTUS style social engineering.[9]
The rapist Trump’s Supremes have undone decades of hard-fought social gains and they’re just getting started. We have the law that we used to have and the new MAGA law. I won’t bother listing all the cases that they decided so far. Their approach is methodical as they roll back rights to create a MAGA-centric quasi-fascist theocracy.
Justice Thomas along with his insurrectionist wife are already bought and paid for and are a wholly owned subsidiary of billionaire Harlon Crow.[10] You know the guy that’s worth a couple of billion dollars, has a garden with statues of a rogues gallery of dictators, paintings done by the one and only Adolf Hitler, and a signed copy of Mein Kampf.[11] That Harlon Crow.
Justice Thomas recently hired as a law clerk a good looking young white woman with a racist bigoted past.[12] Isn’t it amazing how often right-wing racists show up with conservatives? The young woman also previously worked for Turning Point USA.[13] Did I mention that she lived in the Thomas household for a while?[14] [15]
Justice Alito has a long proud history of advancing corporate interests and being in alignment with the same antis that MAGA and Trump have.[16] His decisions have allowed religious businesses to discriminate against those that are deemed unworthy. His billionaire fishing buddy is Paul Singer.[17]
Justice Barrett has a long history of advocating religious extremism.[18] Since becoming a Justice her lawyer dad has received a promotion in a religious sect that she belongs too called the People of Praise (PoP).[19] PoP like so many other religious organizations has become involved in covering up sex scandals. Speaking of sex scandals Justice Kavanaugh is still facing accusations from multiple women and that’s not counting the one that proved to be false.[20] He’s just as extreme right as the others and he’s considered a moderate.[21]
I’m not going to burn up any more time with this. This link takes you to an article from Forbes that does an excellent job of highlighting the ethics (or lack thereof) of Supreme Court Justices.[22]
In other words the SCOTUS is rewriting the Constitution to have the country take a hard right turn that suits their interests and view of a society that caters to the interests of MAGA, billionaires, elites, racists, and Christian Nationalists.
