If you hang around enough crazies some crazy is bound to rub off on you.
Did Donald Trump and the Republican Party divide the nation or did they rather reveal the nation that already was? By and large, the divisions were there but hidden just beneath the surface. It just took a man like Trump to scrape away the thin veneer of civilization and bring out the rabid tribalism.
Liars and cheats
Why are Republican legislators making all these laws to suppress the vote?
Trump himself actually put it quite succinctly when he said that Republicans couldn’t get elected if it was easy to vote by mail. He worked diligently to stop voting by mail and whined about it all through the election and since. (Trump voted by mail.)
By his own admission, the Texas Attorney General (AG) was successful in blocking a couple of million mail-in ballot applications with the Texas Supreme Court. He said the following, "Had we not done that, we would have been in the very same situation—we would've been on Election Day, I was watching on election night and I knew, when I saw what was happening in these other states, that that would've been Texas. We would've been in the same boat. We would've been one of those battleground states that they were counting votes in Harris County for three days and Donald Trump would've lost the election."
The Texas AG should know his state. Evidently Texas is bluer than we thought.
BTW Texas had 23 complaints of voter fraud out of over 11 million votes cast in the 2020 election.
All that glitters
There is no widespread voter fraud anywhere in the country. It’s a part of the BIG LIE that Republicans along with Trump are sewing. Trump is the head of the Republican Party and the darling of the Evangelicals. Yes those super-duper uber worshippers of the Chosen One Trump lie out of both their faces just like the vast majority of the leadership of the Republican Party. The man that they built the golden statue of is dividing them just like he divided the nation. They are busily purging his party of those that speak the truth.
All the counties challenged and falsely accused of massive fraud in the 2020 election by Republicans were predominantly counties populated by people of color or those of the lower economic strata.
Voting for difficulty
Red states in a coordinated attack are following the Republican Party line in passing the legislation that will take the bubble off plumb and put it in their direction in elections. They are masters of voter suppression. They have decades of practice. They gerrymander. They intimidate. They delay. They deny. They suppress. Fewer ballot boxes and polling places in areas where they want the vote suppressed. The neighborhoods of the poor and where people of color reside. The whiter the vote the better they are.
Year after year we see it reported and watch the videos of people in lines waiting for hours to cast their vote. The same neighborhoods. Why is that? Who does that serve? Why doesn’t that get better? Because that’s the way Republicans want it. It serves their interests in the Red states.
In the body
democracy they are a pathogen.
