Crime of the Century!

Not what you might think.

            The title “Crime of the Century” came from a line in an article about US Attorney Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation of the Mueller report.  Trump had claimed that Durham was going to uncover the Crime of the Century.[1]  Nothing.  Well, not exactly nothing.  One FBI attorney was found guilty of doctoring an email.  He received probation.  BTW The agent wasn’t found out by Durham.  The DOJ made the discovery.  Two others were charged and found not guilty.  The Mueller Report’s findings were validated.[2]  That’s it.  Three-year investigation. 

What do you think that cost?  Well, for one thing they burned a source that the FBI had been using for 3 years.  So there’s that.  The Durham investigation has cost $6.5 million so far.[3] 

            Well, the Ken Starr six-year criminal investigation of the Clintons cost a cool $70 million.[4]  His investigation led to President Clinton being impeached for lying about getting a blow job.  He was not convicted by the Senate.

            One Republican committee, a select committee, spent 2 years and $7 million investigating Hillary Clinton over Benghazi.[5]  Nothing.  There were a total of ten investigations of Benghazi including 5 other House committees. No evidence of wrongdoing on her part.  Guess who was one of the members of the select committee?[6] 

Jim Jordan.

Really!

            Republicans are forming committees to open all sorts of investigations.[7]  One committee to investigate government is to be headed up by none other than coup plotter Jim Jordan.[8]  (Yes, you read that right.  The government.)  You know, the guy that inquired about people getting pardons from then President Trump after the January 6 attack on our Capitol.  The guy now being investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for his role in the coup attempt.  He wants to know what evidence that the DOJ has on him.  That guy.

            Another coup plotter, House Republican Neofascist Andy Biggs, wants to investigate First Lady Jill Biden in addition to Hunter Biden.[9]  Biggs is also one of those that voted against McCarthy for Speaker. 

            They are going to investigate Covid.[10]  Hint.  It came from China.  Now, in order for them to investigate and receive any meaningful information they would have to have access and information from the Chinese government.  No problem there.  They just need the formality of an investigation. No problem for any of their investigations really. 

They already have the answers.

Very interesting

            Speaking of getting popcorn to watch the show how about Biden’s lawyers finding classified documents at an office formerly occupied by Biden?[1]  The really interesting thing about this story is that it took place last year on November 2^nd and this is the first that we’re hearing about it.  It’s being reported that some of the dozen documents had the Sensitive Classified Information (SCI) designation.[2] 

            I’m reminded of a phrase from the Nixon years.  What did they know and when did they start lying about it?  Or something like that.  Other Democrats were aware that it had happened.  Biden damn sure knew about it.  A Trump appointed attorney is doing the investigating as Special Council. (See correction note at bottom.)

Weird.

Scavenger hunt

            Want to bet that a lot of ex-Presidents, Vice Presidents and government officials in general are going through old files right now not to mention all of the current members of Congress along with their staff.  They should.  This is outrageous. 

We now have a bigger problem than just current and former Presidents having classified documents in places where they shouldn’t be.  This is more than enough evidence now to show that there’s a lot of sloppiness when it comes to handling classified material.  LOTs of people are involved.  You know that people at that level aren’t getting their own documents so staff and clerks are involved. 

When I was a classified documents courier, I carried a 45.  I had a Top-Secret clearance.  That didn’t mean that I could look at the documents.  I didn’t have any “need to know.”  Signed out.  Signed in.  Never left my physical presence.  The documents were tracked.  There were documents where even the names were classified.  I can’t even imagine a scenario where it would happen that oh by the way that Top Secret document you were carrying around never showed up or checked out and never came back. 

            There obviously needs to be a major overhaul of how classified documents are regardless of whatever Administration and Congress is in power.  Anyone that handles classified information should be given mandatory training before they’re allowed to handle it.  Anyone.  Where any classified document is at any given time should never be in question.

There should be consequences.

What now?

            Welp, the Dems and Reps are already arguing over whose is the greatest sin in regard to the mishandling of classified documents.  Yes, there are major differences between the two cases but in my estimation, it is a matter of degree.

            Biden can’t be charged as President.  The DOJ is already doing an investigation headed by a Trump appointee.  Whatever the finding nothing will happen until he leaves office.  Republicans will hesitate to impeach him over the issue because doing anything puts their guy at more risk than he already is.  Whether the classified documents were mishandled intentionally or on purpose will weigh heavily on any decision made by the courts or DOJ. 

            One thing for is for certain.  It will be a show.

            Okay. An antisemite, white supremacist and man-child walk into bar on Groundhog Day and ask where’s the Brazilian?  The bartender answers, “you were just in last week and it’s too early for a trim.”

Dinner with the Don

Remember when Ye and Feuntes had dinner with Trump at Mar a Lago last year?[1]  How long do you think it will be before ex-Brazilian President Bolsonaro shows up at Mar a Lago for a meal with Il Duce?  Perhaps we should start a pool. 

Bolsonaro’s supporters were busy storming Brazil’s congressional building and Supreme Court on Sunday after a couple of months of denying the election results there.[2]  Bolsonaro had already left the country on Dec 30th for sunny Orlando, Florida, two days before the inauguration in Brazil.  He knew where he could expect to find kindred spirits.  And, well, South America does have a somewhat different history when it comes to dealing with ousted heads of state so probably a good move on his part. 

I don’t want to be insensitive here.  He recently checked into a Florida hospital for stomach pain.  I can see where election denying could give somebody a tummy ache.  It’s stressful.[3]  After hospital food he should be primed and ready for some steak with ketchup at Mar a Lago!

            Has Trump’s attempted coup become a template for neofascists now?  Deny the election.  Storm the Capitol.  Bolsonaro’s supporters stormed their Presidential Palace as well.  MAGA Heads are probably beating themselves up now over not thinking to do that!  They could have gone in, got Trump and brought him with them!  They’ll do better next time if they get the chance.

It’s the little things.
