Indicatement!

(2-minute read)

Nothing but the facts.

There are a whole lot of headlines about nothin’ regarding Trump’s indictment.  Everybody wants a ‘you-heard-it-here-first’ exclusive!  Even if it’s only by minutes.  There’s a whole lot of this could happen or not depending on what really is happening.

There are actual facts in what’s taking place.  The New York Grand Jury voted to indict former President Trump.  Trump and his people know that he has been indicted.  At some point he’ll turn himself in to the authorities.  Then we’ll learn what the charges are.  It’s a short story.

Here’s another thing that we do know.  Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, was caught during Trump’s Administration and charged with the same crime by the feds in addition to other charges including income tax evasion.[1]  He pled guilty and did 13 ½ months in prison.  It was Trump’s DOJ that prosecuted Cohen.[2]  Now with Cohen’s help Trump is indicted.

Karma.

Apples and oranges

A key element in Trump’s indictment is that it was the Feds that charged Cohen under Federal statutes.  It’s the state of New York that is charging Trump.  This is why various legal pundits are saying that in order for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to charge Trump with felonies he’s going to have to try something novel or creative.

I’m no legal scholar by any stretch of the imagination but I just don’t see a novel or creative indictment happening.  Not with what will be a historically difficult case to try in the first place just to see it shot down in the preliminary stages in motions to dismiss over a jurisdictional issue.

It seems just as likely to me that Bragg will follow a similar pattern to the DOJ filing against Cohen minus the federal election campaign charges.

What we do know.

However, we have learned a lot about Neo Republican Fascists during this time.  They immediately jumped to defend their Il Duce[3] (fascist leader) and tell their base that there is no rule of law anymore because Trump was accused of breaking the law and indicted.  This comes from the same people that are clamoring for Biden to be indicted and he IS the President (and has done nothing to be indicted for).

Legacy Republicans have had the opportunity to stand up for our form of government, rather than continuing to undermine it.

They haven’t.
