Gnat’s Ass close

 (4 minute, 15 second read)

Having it both ways

The Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol has provided more incredible testimony and evidence of the coup attempted by Trump and others. The testimony is being provided predominantly by Republicans, including Trump Party Republicans. Why do I say that? Because despite testifying or believing, eloquently at times, that Trump and his co-conspirators tried to stage a coup and overthrow the government they maintain that they would still vote for him in 2024.[1]

The Trump Republican Party coup is ongoing.

To coup or not to coup?

This is what Donald Trump said to the acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue of the Justice Department and the total lack of evidence of widespread voter fraud had already been repeatedly investigated and ruled nonexistent:

"Just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen."

His congressional coup plotters had sense enough to ask for Trump for pardons because they knew what they were attempting was illegal and that they could face criminal charges. Mo Brooks also asked for 147 pardons for all those Trump Republicans of congress that voted against accepting the Electoral College vote.[2] That was thoughtful of him.

All of these elected officials currently reside in the state of denial.

In the meantime, so far 100 Trump Republican Party election deniers have won their primaries and will be seeking office. In some instances they have replaced, you know, normal Republicans that voted to accept the results of the election or opposed Trump. Poor Mo Brooks, he was a Trump loyalist and coup plotter and still couldn’t get Trump’s support.

Let’s see, the great state of Texas Trump Republican Party also has called the election fraudulent, wants to secede from the union, repress voting, criminalize women seeking abortion, criminalized being LGBTQIA+, criminalized sex education, stop any requirement for vaccinations, protect guns, criminalize talking about people of color in school, ban Democrats from having Chairmanships in the legislature, declare that immigrants (brown people) are invading our country, and call for a Constitutional Convention to change the Constitution of the United States of America.[3]

They don’t like the one we’ve got.

Now that last one from the dystopian list above is a big one. Trump Party Republicans want to rewrite the Constitution. This is no bullshit by the way, and they are close to pulling it off with just a couple more states needed to call for a Constitutional Convention.[4]

Deconstruction

Just to hammer another couple of nails in the coffin being prepared for our Republic, the Trump Republican Party Supremes have gone along with putting more guns on the streets, using taxpayer money to fund religious education, and now criminalized women seeking to terminate their pregnancy and get an abortion, and they’re just getting started. And they were mockingly hateful in their opposition to the court dissidents to continue in the proud Trump tradition. They are, after all,

Trump’s Supremes.

In the end

The defense expressed by the remaining Justice Department officials to resign en masse if Trump proceeded to try and get them to falsely claim that there was widespread voter fraud doesn’t seem to me to be much in the way of defense. It’s kind of like telling the opposing team that’s losing that you’ll quit if that’s what it takes to get them to win. Anyway, it worked.

There was a lackey down the food chain a ways in the Justice Department that was willing to ingratiate himself to Trump and do his bidding. That person is always there. That person is there in the chain of command in the military as well. Because Trump was trying to get the Army to intervene in the election General Milly was threatening to resign just as he had done previously over an action of Trump’s.[5] Once again, this doesn’t seem to be the best plan because ultimate they’ll get to that individual who WILL do it.

So Trump tried it all:  the courts, including the Supreme Court and the wife of a Supreme Court Justice, members of both houses of Congress, state legislatures and state officials, the Department of Justice, the Vice President, Administration officials and consultants, a violent attack on the Capitol. Media (still at it.), attacks on poll workers, vote recounts, “independent” examinations of elections, a continuous flow of lies, and there’s more evidence coming to light every day. None of it worked. Trump came close though. Real close. If he had had the courage to walk to the Capitol on January 6 a whole different story would have been written. If the weakest-of-weak lackey Vice President Pence had caved our form of government would now be at an end. That’s what the Trump Republican Party still wants. Like I said at the beginning.

They are closer than a gnat’s ass cheeks to doing it.
