White Lives Matter
The self-identified Christian Nationalist[1] Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene most recently shared this in a video where she explained why she believes that white men are the “…most persecuted identity in America.”[2] For real. Not kidding. She went on to say that’s why young white men turn to pornography.[3] If you haven’t watched the video, you should. (The link is in the end notes.) A Raw Story article has other links to other outrageous comments that she has made.[4] Cray. I’ll get back to this in a minute.
The person in the mirror.
In various places throughout all media, I will see the question posed in various wording essentially asking if there’s anything that Trump can do that will lose him his supporters. The answer for his core base of 30 to 40 million people is “No.” To reject Trump for what he is, is to reject what they are. What the truth is, is immaterial to them. When confronted with irrefutable truth they simply deny it or concoct a conspiracy theory or some kind of weird alternate universe explanation, like clone impersonators being involved, to explain it away.[5] If you haven’t watched Jordan Klepper interviewing Trump supporters you should.[6] (Links are in end notes 4 and 5.)
Funny? Yes. Also, sad. Very sad.
Perpetual victims
Trump, in a moment of absolute clarity, recognized this early on and made his oft referenced comment that he could shoot someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and wouldn’t lose their support or something like that. His core base shares his victimology. They are the ones being persecuted and discriminated against. The deck is stacked against them because they are white.
Trump’s supplicants either mimic or enjoy his vulgarity and dishonesty. He speaks their truth. He is their voice. He understands their being victims of society. He validates them.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of Trump’s stars along with others that share in his beliefs. First and foremost, they believe “The Big Lie.” They absolutely have to believe Trump won the 2020 election. That dominates their lives and their daily psyche. That is the top issue on their ugly agenda. Their agenda is to make America great again by keeping white people in charge.
It’s why the right wing supports Trump.
Pornography
But first a story!
When I was a teenager a bunch of friends and I got real loaded with alcohol and someone had the bright idea to go to an adult theater. I should mention here that I grew up in conservative Kansas. It was already late, so the theater was full and the only seats open were on the front row. So, a half dozen of us settled in to watch the film in progress.
We thought the movie was screamingly funny. Probably had something to do with the amount of alcohol we had consumed. Yes, we were underage and drinking. I blame a lax society that didn’t do a better job of not selling liquor to underage teenagers. It was so funny that we were hollering comments at the “actors” on screen. The sound effects for the actors having consensual sex sounded exactly like a toilet being plunged because it had an obstruction. Management came in and asked us to leave. We were disturbing the ambiance. As we were leaving since our eyes had adjusted to the darkened theater, we could see that the theater was full, completely full of seniors. That made us kind of sad.
Do you know where the most pornography is watched?[7] Did you guess red states? Only one blue state made it into the top ten. Hawaii. Go figure. Well, people are on an island but it seems like there should be plenty of other activities to keep them entertained. The effects of pornography are of concern to the conservative Trump Republicans especially the church crowd.[8]
I do want to take a second to acknowledge that there are a lot of things that can become a problem like pornography. I knew a pastor that had a problem with watching porn. He overcame his addiction. I myself quit when I had to start wearing glasses. Mom and dad were right? Anyway, it turns out that evidently Greene was right. White people do have a problem with pornography.
According to Greene she doesn’t think the female teachers should be yelling at white boys either.[9] Really, you should watch the entire thread on twitter.
Had enough? I know that I have. The hypocrisy just gets hard to believe at a certain point. It almost seems like it’s a sketch that we’re watching and it’ll be over in a little while. But it isn’t. Come November,
