WARNING! This post will have major, and I mean MAJOR, triggers in it for some people regarding rape, incest, abortion, pedophilia and probably some perversions that I haven’t even thought of. Not kidding. This is about some seriously fucked-up shit. SERIOUSLY!!! I’m going to cuss a more than normal in this post.
Going to the chapel.
In the Wyoming state legislature, a Republican reintroduced a bill, now HB7, that had been previously introduced by a Democrat that set the minimum age for marriage at 18, with an exception carved out for 16 and 17 year olds with parental consent. The Republican Party of Wyoming came out in opposition to the bill [1], citing “concerns about constitutional rights”. I kid you not. Do you know what rights they are so concerned about? The right of a minor child to marry. Because a child can get pregnant. And so that pregnant child should be able to make the decision to marry. Because God gave her that child.
Read all about it here.[2] Here.[3] Here.[4] Here.[5] And here.[6] Seriously. Go to the links and read about it. (The end notes also take you to the links.)
This post is an example of me being “woke”.[7]
!!! NEWsFLASH !!!
Attention Neo-Republican Fascists, Democrats and White Christian Nationalists! Children don’t always make the best decisions!
Groomers Protection
It’s worse than it looks. Now why would I say that? Because a “conservative” pastor that helps people understand legislation of importance in Wyoming opposes the bill for religious reasons.[8] He opposes a bill that limits the marriage of children. His Jesus wants children to get married and have kids.
!!! BREAKING NEWS !!!
Republicans are now calling President Biden trigger happy in shooting down balloons!
BACK TO THE POST
So, thanks to Wyoming NRFs currently an 11-year-old child can marry. She can marry another child. She can be pregnant and marry another child. She can marry an adult. She can marry her rapist. Her parents can “talk” her into doing the right thing by getting married. She can be forced to carry the baby to term. She can marry a child or adult of another race! It’s a “natural right” of every child. After all she has parental rights. Or her parents have parental rights. Perhaps the rapist has parental rights. It gets kind of confusing with NRFs at times.
Daddy I love him!
Calling all pervs!
Hey
pervs! Want to impregnate and then marry
an 11-year-old? Well, load up the car with
your future child bride fiancée and head for Wyoming! It’s the place for you!
Sweet Jesus! I swear you can’t make shit like this up. And really, who’d want to? I did a variety of checks just to make sure that this story wasn’t bullshit because there’s so much and it’s so deep lately. It just vomits out of the Neo-Republican Fascists (NRFs).
NRFs can cry “constitutional rights” all they want, but what it really is is legalized pedophilia. It’s a get out of jail free card for pedophile rapists when they can marry their underage victim. Because let’s face it, they are not talking about the constitutional rights of one 11 year old to marry another 11 year old.
Truth.
Real world
I picked the age of 11 due to the language that was used by the Republican Party of Wyoming. Human females are capable of getting pregnant as young as 11 (or, in fact, even younger in rare instances). Keep in mind that in the majority of states, children at the age of 15 can get married with the consent of parents. There are 8 states, blue and red, including Wyoming, that right now have no minimum age requirement. Interestingly, last year Tennessee legislators tried to do away with that state’s minimum marriage age requirement, but the bill failed to advance following public outcry.[9] In 2017 NRF New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a bill that would have prevented child marriage and established a minimum age of 18.[10] (In 2018 New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed the law banning marriage for anyone under 18.)
The response in italics below was lifted from a commentor to a news article that I read in end note 1. I did not edit the comments. There were lots of comments to choose from including some in support of pedophilia. While I can’t speak to the veracity of the of the post of the commentor below it seems legit and presents what is more likely a real-world example of what can happen with children. A lot of bases are covered in this response.
45 years ago, I was a SW in western Maryland. I was trying to work with a woman in her late twenties who had an 8 yo son. She lacked parenting skills, as well as, daily living skills. She disclosed one day that she was divorced and her son’s father was not her ex-husband, At 14/15 years old, her parents “married” her off to a 65 yo man who gave her parents $800. She went along with the arrangement because she wanted to get out of the house. She was from WV. She was old before her time, living in utter poverty, a grade school dropout, significant medical problems and couldn’t see any way forward. She had numerous DUIs and totaled her wreck of an uninsured car. It was a heart breaking situation. She needed foster care for herself. Kids shouldn’t be married and having children.
The last line says it all.
Focus on the family.
NRFs like to use “parental rights” and “religious freedom” to defend their actions. Lots of their actions. In fact, it’s a catch all defense for their agenda. If a parent wants to let their child get married that’s their right, and the child’s right. That’s real fucked up.
Phil Robertson, a champion of homophobic religious conservatives and of the hugely popular Duck Dynasty, not only married his wife when she was 16, he encouraged others to do the same.[11] He also said that 15 was okay. (I talked about Robertson in a 2014 post.) And the Christian faith is under attack over child marriage. Let me take that back. According to ‘Let them Marry’: “The modern Christian church is under dramatic attack, particularly in the area of marriage. One way that this has expressed itself is in a lack of marriages themselves. Our ministry was created to address this lack.” At the top of their page, they use a disclaimer to state that parents should not seek a spouse for a child unless the child actively wants them to![12] Sick fucks.
I want to marry him daddy!
Rights and wrongs
NRFs use parental rights as an excuse to ban sex education, ban books, ban words, keep their kids from wearing masks, getting vaccinated, using birth control, learning history and so on. They don’t want the government involved in any of this but they do want the government to bring their God back into schools. Their god. A god that’s okay with children getting married.
What about the parental rights of gay couples? Oops! The NRFs have exceptions to parental rights. They aren’t big on parental rights when it comes to the parents of trans kids.[13] They don’t want those parents to have the same rights in regard to their kids.
Another exception is that they want families to stay together except gay families. They don’t like gay families. They also don’t like gay kids in school. Well, that isn’t exactly true they can be gay in school as long as they keep their mouth shut about it. Talking about gay kids triggers them. But really, a child isn’t old enough to decide their sexuality but is old enough to decide to get married?
But daddy I love her!
Here’s an interesting side note: back in 1967 in Kansas, I had to get parental consent to get married and I was 20 and in the Army. My wife, who was 18, needed no consent. (The legal age to marry in Kansas is now 18, regardless of sex. However, with parental consent, a person can marry at 16. With judicial approval, a person can marry at 15.)
Note: thankfully, as of the date of this post it looks like HB7 is going to pass.
