Until Trump ran for office I did not understand the depth of racism in this country. It was a wakeup call. Until Trump I did not know, we did not know as a nation, how fragile our democracy was when you have a man at the top that ignores the law and is not held accountable. There was supposed to be a system of checks and balances in place to handle such a man. Trump showed that that system doesn’t work. The men and women that were supposed to make it work didn’t.
They weren’t held accountable either. They got reelected. Their behavior of supporting a dictator was rewarded by the cult that bowed down to the dictator. In other words the engine of democracy threw a rod….
….through the block.
A matter of policy?
Quote from a woman that worked in the Trump Administration.
“I chose to work in the Trump administration because I believed in his agenda, I believed in the policies we enacted, I believed in a lot of what we accomplished but what I saw take place Wednesday (ED, 1/6) overshadowed all the good we’ve done these past four years.”
“All the good.”
Willful ignorance.
We learned in 2020 that seventy million people, probably more, including people of color, went along with …
- A racist agenda of white nationalism.
- Taking away insurance from those desperately in need of it.
- The beliefs of one faith, a form of the Christian faith, being imposed upon the entire country at the expense of all others under the guise of providing religious freedom.
- Separating children from their parents or families as a matter of policy.
- Putting money before people. I.e. working is more important than living, the economy comes before people, etc.
- Putting every department of government.
- Alienating most if not all of our allies.
- Undermining NATO.
- Bailing on the Kurds to support Turkey’s Erdogan.
- Standing up for Putin.
- Falling in LOVE with North Korea.
- Ignoring sound medical policies that would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
- Supporting the mass murderer running the show.
- Providing socialism for the wealthy and ultra-wealthy while starving out the poor.
- Promoting authoritarian rule.
- Reducing unemployment benefits.
- All-encompassing anti-science agenda from vaccines to climate change.
Republicans are still doing everything in their power to delay help reaching those in desperate need and continue supporting the above-mentioned agenda.
Where’s the beef (good)?!
Well, I did title the piece the Trump was good for America so where exactly is the good in all this? The good is that we now know where we stand as a nation. We now know how close we are to being a quasi-dictatorship/theocracy. We know that racism is rampant across the nation. We learned that 74 million people along with the majority of Republicans are more than willing to lie, cheat and steal their way to the top even if it comes at the expense of our democracy. Admitting you have a problem is the first step toward fixing it. Fortunately we also learned that 81 million patriots supported our Republic.
We learned all this in time to beat back a coup attempt that is ongoing. The problem is:
The beast is awakened.
