The Call

Making the call

There’s so much going on in the world right now it’s hard to decide what to talk about first. As an additional complication the internet in general is churning out an incredible amount of pure garbage. Whatever someone chooses to believe there is a forum out there that will support, reinforce and grow those beliefs no matter how bizarre.

On the one hand we have Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, serving as a beacon to the free world of leadership, courage and democracy and leading the resistance to the Russian invasion. On the other hand we have Putin (Pronounced Poo • tin), the man that started World War III by invading Ukraine, whose army is dispassionately bombing Ukrainian civilians and destroying Ukrainian cities along with their infrastructure while threatening any country that helps Ukraine with more of the same.

As a nation who should we support?

It should be an easy call.

The same cloth

I have watched several interviews and videos of former President Trump, the head of the Trump party a.k.a. the Republican Party, talking about Pootin. In an interview with Fox Pravda host Sean Hannity, Hannity tried to get Trump to say that Putin was evil. Trump couldn’t do it. He did bash our own leadership. Trump also listed all the despots that he got along with and said that they understood him. They did. Completely. They knew that he wanted to be in their club. They are cut from the same cloth.

Trump, along with Fox Pravda, is still helping Putin. When Trump was in office he alienated our allies and threatened to pull out of NATO while upholding Putin.

Now this is where things get even stranger and that’s pretty hard to do in today’s world. I have watched video of Trump supporters claiming that Trump, Putin and Xi are working against the deep state to try and stop Ukraine from using bio weapons that the United States produced in Ukrainian labs. For them Putin is the good guy! They say this kind of garbage with a straight face and they look like normal people.

Looks can be deceiving.

Ride Sharing

Trump is no admirer of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He’s the man that turned down Trump’s request to investigate Biden in order to get the military aid that Trump was holding up. In Trump world that makes Zelenskyy a loser just like all the others that refused to do Trump’s bidding.

President Zelenskyy, when offered a ride out of Ukraine by the US, said “I don’t want a ride; Send Me Some Ammunition.” By contrast, Trump said he would walk with his insurrectionist coup supporters on January 6th to the Capitol. He didn’t, though; he was afraid to do that.

Trump took the ride.

Front and Center

Trump demands to be center stage and that attention be focused on him. But he didn’t even have the courage to go all in on his coup attempt. He chickened out, he blinked. Trump could have pardoned the insurrectionists before he left office. He didn’t, though; he was afraid to do even that. That’s his lack of character.

President Biden and other world leaders are letting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy take the center stage. He’s a man of great character who has risen to the occasion with incredible courage and leadership.

Zelenskyy is a beacon for Ukraine and for democracy.
