Cannabis? Ubetibus!

The sky is so pretty.

 (5.5 minute read)

I’m going to talk about using weed in this post.  It’s past time to make it legal everywhere.

To Cannabis or not to Cannabis

My wife and I stood in line to buy cannabis at the Greenlight Marijuana Dispensary in Branson, MO.  No police were involved.  Recreational as well as medical pot is legal here now.  Missouri is a red state too.  Go figure.

This might be a good time to share our Magic Fingers experience with weed back in the whenevers.

We were on a vacation and ended up getting a room late at night at a lodge that was a ways out from the Grand Canyon where we had spent the day.  It was the last room available in the area.  Our room was on the second floor. The room was spare, with thin walls as we learned later.  It was rustic.  It also turned out to have an amusement park ride.

It had been a long exhausting day of travel and adventure so we smoked a joint.  Then we noticed that the bed, in addition to being old and sagging a lot in the middle, had “Magic Fingers”!  Now for those that might not know, “Magic Fingers” was a coin operated box back in the whenevers that hung on the end of the bed.  When turned on it shook the whole bed ostensibly providing a massage to the weary traveler.  Perfect!  We were weary travelers!

Immediately we recognized the entertainment potential that a sagging bed could provide.  We had never tried “Magic Fingers” before, so I plugged in a quarter to see what would happen.  Well, magic happened that’s what happened.

We both laid down at the edges of the bed, flat on our backs with our arms straight down to our sides. The entire bed started shaking. Since the mattress sagged in the middle as it shook we both slowly rolled to the middle and kind of bounced together like a couple of logs.  Great fun.  Especially if you’re high and we were.  It was some excellent weed.

The first time was so much fun that we did it again and again one quarter after another.  Screaming with laughter the whole time.  I lost track of the agains until someone pounded on the wall for us to quiet down.  It was time.  We were plum tuckered out from our exertions and laughing.

We are newbies though in today’s world of cannabis acquiring.  A lot of decades have passed since we last … acquired … grass.  Things have changed.  Especially in the field of edibles.  In the whenevers we had brownies.  That was pretty much it.  Man, oh man there’s plenty of selection now. Now it’s all about the gummies.

The Greenlight dispensary has a nice contemporary look.  The employees were patient, professional and knowledgeable.  After finding out what our goals were the young man that waited on us helped with suggestions of what we should try out first.  The place was packed but the steady flow of patrons was managed well.

All kinds of normal people were there.  ‘All kinds of normal’ meaning people just going on looks alone normal.  No Abby Normal looking people were there unless they were in disguise.  I don’t believe that there exists a stereotypical person that uses cannabis products.

!!! This is a CANNABISELRADE ALERT !!![1]

Before I go any farther payment for cannabis products has to be in cash or debit card because of the feds.  It still isn’t legal federally.  That makes it illegal for credit cards to be used to purchase schedule 1 drugs.[2]  It’s always something.

You can now return to regular post reading!  But you never really left did you?

Pain management

There are millions of people in our aging population dealing with differing levels of pain, nausea and other medical quality of life issues that cannabis can help with.  Cannabis isn’t like taking an opioid to deal with pain.  As best I can describe it is that pain is kind of set off to the side.  It helps manage the pain in that it makes it possible to ignore it.

My wife and I both have chronic back trouble along with arthritis that makes for near constant pain.  We’re trying out edibles to get us some of that pain management that you can’t get from regular doctors.

Doctors are understandably hesitant to prescribe opioids for long term use because of the potential for addiction.  They want to take care of the problem or problems causing the pain.  That quite often can’t be done.

I’m taking an oral cancer medication that has anemia and nausea as side effects.  I’ll be on the medication for 3 more years.  The docs prescribed 3 different anti-nausea pills for me.  None of them worked.  Cannabis does.

Whenever the doctor or nurse asks me if I’m in any pain I always answer, “oldster pain” and explain.  Then they dutifully write down that patient denies having any pain in their office notes because they really don’t have a fix for oldster pain.

It’s a cover up.

Hello Stoned

Even though I’m an excellent driver we decided to wait until after we got home to try out our legally acquired dope. BTW it’s illegal to drive under the influence.  We looked over our variety of edibles and decided to start with the one that had the least THC, the part that makes people high.[3]

We figured wrong.

We ended up starting with the one that had the most THC.  We enjoyed it.  A lot.  It was an enjoyment that lasted several hours.  I thought some really funny thinks.  So far, we have managed in a couple of days to get both high and stoned.  It’s possible that I’m experimenting more than she is.  The pain managing is going my-t-fine!

THC and CBD both have therapeutic value.  But what we are looking for is having a nice balance.  We want to continue being active in the day without being high or stoned.  Whether it’s coffee, alcohol or cannabis the effects shouldn’t get in the way of enjoying the day.  We don’t plan on using cannabis every day because we don’t need it every day.

Some people do.
