Short Takes 3/5/2023

I like this format and think that I'll use it for awhile using the same graphic but with a different day in the title. There's a lot of interesting stuff going on out there.

(2.5 minute read)

Die woman die!

South Carolina has introduced a bill to make the death penalty a punishment for the woman that gets an abortion.[i]  The current law is for the woman to get 2 years in prison and up to a $1,000 fine.  So, a woman that miscarries could potentially be charged with attempted murder?

Gay water

Neo-Republican Fascist Governor DeSantis appointed a former pastor, Ron Peri, who has said that tap water can lead to gayness[ii] to the Disney oversight board. I bullshit you not.  Yep. Gayness.  (Originally, I linked to the video of Peri but it has been deleted.  Now why on earth would he do that do you suppose?

Banning

Iowa NRFs are seeking to ban same sex marriage again.[iii]  They don’t like to be “forced” into believing in same sex marriage.  At CPAC there were lots of calls to eradicate transgender people.[iv]  Somehow someone being transgender is taking away their rights.

Toe that line!

Meanwhile in Texas US Representative Gonzalez, who chose not to toe the NRF Party line, was censured by the state GOP for voting for gun safety laws and defending same sex marriage.[v]  The Uvalde school shooting is in his district.

The days of CPAC

In case you missed it the Lincoln Project did Day 1 (135 sec), Day 2 (120 sec), and Day 3 (2 minutes).

To copy a phrase of NRF Senator Lindsey Graham—these people are batshit crazy.

Two things

Back to Florida for again for this one.  A Florida state Republican introduced a bill to require that bloggers that talk about DeSantis and other Republican officials register with the state.[vi]  Back in 2014 Putin did the same thing in Russia.[vii]  Russia invaded Ukraine in March of 2014.  Trump thinks we should do that on our southern border.[viii]
