(5.5-minute read)
It’s almost poetic that so many people of color are involved with holding Trump accountable for his crimes against America and our way of life.
Noteworthy
Something that really stands out in all the cases that Trump has is the type of lawyering that Trump is paying for to litigate his legal difficulties. His lead attorney in his New York fraud case is Alina Habba and she has been monumentally inept when it comes to just basic lawyering.
Trump doesn’t appear to have any of those firms that have hundreds of lawyers with layers of expertise and the resources to support them anywhere in the country. Well, maybe not in England either. Trump just lost a case there.[1] Just more of Trump being a successful loser Internationally.
One would think that these prestigious firms would be chomping at the bit to handle these high-profile revenue generating cases. But they aren’t. Why is that? NUMBER ONE Trump is a client that can’t control himself. And I think that a BIG NUMBER TWO is that his cases are BIG NUMBER TWOing losers and they don’t want their reputations damaged with nonsensical legal arguments. Suppose that it is also just possible that they have a certain sense of morality when it comes to representing a traitor to our nation?
Nah.
Win some. Lose some.
So far Trump, scratch that, so far everybody but multi-billionaire Trump has paid $73 million in legal fees.[2] He could easily spend 3 times that by the time this is over. That happens when you commit illegal acts in so many places around the country in a crime spree.
Trump’s legal strategy has never changed. Deny, deflect, delay, appeal, attack, counter sue and when settling have the settlement sealed so people won’t know how much he lost.
However the public did learn that Trump paid up the entire amount in the Polish Brigade case because the judge unsealed the records after 20 years.[3] This is the case where Trump stiffed 200 undocumented workers. Trump loves poor people so much that he wants to keep them unspoiled and poor just like legacy Republicans have done for decades. That’s a MAGA policy as well.
I wrote about the various court cases against Trump back in Oct of 2023 and have posted updates to them. You can access that post here. There hasn’t been a lot to update other than in the E. Jean Carroll Defamation cases. The news has been full of her big $83 million dollar win.
There’s still the January 6 (J6) election interference (criminal), Classified Documents (criminal), Georgia Fake Electors (criminal), Trump Organization Fraud (civil), and New York Hush Money (criminal) cases pending. The criminal cases encompass the 4 indictments where the 91 felony charges come from. BTW Grand Juries do the indicting NOT Prosecutors. So far, all the criminal cases are delayed due to Trump’s legal maneuvering delay tactics.
The J6 (Judge Chutkin, a POC) case is waiting on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit decision regarding former President’s right (complete immunity) to shoot somebody on 5th Ave and get away with it. People on 5th Ave in NYC might be a little more cautious in the future if the appeals court rules in Trump’s favor. That case’s trial date was pulled pending the appeal court decision. Then a new date will be set.
The delay in the J6 trial moved up the New York Hush Money trial to the starting gate.[4] Trump will try to delay that as well. That trial is being judged by Judge Juan Merchan, a POC, and prosecuted by yet another POC, Alvin Bragg. Trump has previously attacked Judge Merchan and his family.[5]
The Trump Organization Fraud case is awaiting final decision from Judge Engoron. The Prosecutor in this case is Letitia James, another POC. Judge Engoron is deciding what fine The Trump Organization will pay, what else they’re guilty of, and if they’re allowed to keep doing business in New York state.
Judge McAfee will be hearing motions that are trying to stop the Georgia Election Fraud case.[6] The Prosecutor in this case is Fani Willis, another POC.
It’s no wonder the White Supremacists are so worked up about all these cases with so many POC involved.
More to come.
Odds
Now, I have been tracking or writing about the cases that are on their way to the United States Supreme Court. They will be landmark precedent setting cases affecting generations to come. Think Roe v Wade overturned times ten. I think that some 5/4 decisions like in the Texas border dispute are a definite possibility.[7]
In all of these cases I think that it isn’t unreasonable in our court system that Trump will get a win or two. I think some of the projected settlements are getting a little over the top. Like in the fraud case that Judge Engoron presides over. There are predictions of the fine being as much as a half a billion dollars. I don’t think that will happen.
It seems to me that Trump will win some parts of the fraud case resulting in a lower fine in the neighborhood of three or four hundred million dollars. The biggest part of this case I believe even over the hundreds of millions in possible fines is that it could put the Trump Organization out of business in the state of New York.
Trump is going to appeal the verdict and that will put him in a definite fiscal bind. He will have to cover the amount of the fine when he appeals like he has done with his civil rape case and he will have to appeal. If he doesn’t put up the cash of whatever fine is determined then he will have to either sell a property or put one up as collateral. But the property will have to be free and clear of other liens or mortgages.
One thing for sure based on people’s past experiences with the rapist toddler Trump in tense situations is when the fine is announced there’s going to be food, dishes, ketchup, paperwork or something thrown.[8] [9]
Depending upon what happens to Trump others may join in on Trump’s toddler habit of throwing things because if he is found guilty in the J6 trial LOTs of other people, including Members of Congress could be tried for their criminal acts as well. That’s why MAGA Republicans were seeking preemptive pardons before Trump left office.[10] They knew that they had broken laws in trying to overthrow our government. And like this post,
Things come to an end.
