Are Christian churches rising up and speaking out against the MAGA NAZI Jesus beliefs of the Red-Hatted Heritage Foundation MAGA white Christian Nationalists that are seeking to weave their twisted theology into the fabric of America and make it law? Bishop Budde is an outlier. When she spoke up and asked for mercy for the less fortunate MAGA “Christians” turned on her en masse and some even went so far as to say that she should be deported.[2]
I need to get that out of the way. There is just too much hate and intolerance made possible by the Christian faith, its clergy, and its governing book the bible for me to remain a part of it. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t good decent clergy daring to speak. They just seem to be in the minority. Speaking out politically from pulpits could cost churches their tax-exempt status.
Honestly from the very beginning I had questions and doubts. It was the depth of the hatred expressed by people calling themselves Christians towards LGBTQIA people that helped drive me over the edge to leaving the faith.
I passed a bearded oldster at the store that was wearing a red hat that said God, Jesus, and Trump. That’s another popular MAGA slogan. At least Trump wasn’t on top. For a little while anyway. Frankly, I’m surprised Trump wasn’t.
The faith needs to be officially renamed just like The Republican Party needs to be renamed. Führer Trump is just the man to do that very thing and make it official with one of his dementia-fueled fascist decrees. Trump loves branding. Trump Towers. Trump University. Trump Shuttle. Trump Steaks. Trump Vodka. Trump Party. Trump coins. Trumpianity and the First Church of Trump seems a natural evolvement. The religion of Trump with signs “This is a Trump Church” above their doorways. I’m halfway surprised hordes of MAGA cult followers aren’t already branding themselves with the mark of the Trump.
MAGA has been enraptured by Trump.
Called down to earth.
I have been involved with a variety of churches and doctrines over the years. I started off in an evangelical Southern Baptist church. Yes, they held extreme beliefs and didn’t hesitate to share them. Like Catholics being idolators and women not being in positions of leadership. And now they worship their Führer Trump.
I had questions from the very beginning. Early on I asked the pastor if a man in a foreign country never heard about Jesus but lived his entire life as a good decent person died would he go to heaven. The minister answered no and that was why missionary work was so important. I distinctly remember thinking, “Well that’s bullshit.”
When I got out of the Army I tried church again. (I should mention here that I went hippie, letting my hair grow long after 4 years of buzz cuts.) It was a Baptist church. As luck would have it the pastor gave an entire sermon that morning about hippies and not only looked directly at me, he pointed at me and the entire congregation turned around in their seats and to stare. Evidently, I was an evil person in the eyes of the lord. Lots of scripture said so.
Years later I tried a Methodist church. That church folded over an LGBTQIA issue. Turned out that the Christians didn’t want to be open and affirming. Then I tried a Presbyterian church. We ended up leaving over the same issue. We support the rights of gay people. Don’t ask, don’t tell isn’t being supportive, open, and inclusive. Silence is submission and agreement with what is taking place in America.
Over the years I had other questions. Questions of biblical proportions. Questions about contradictions in the bible. Questions about the validity of doctrines. Questions about various interpretations. It’s only been within the last couple of years that I started going to actual biblical scholars to find out if what I was being told was in fact true. It wasn’t and hasn’t been for thousands of years. A lot of bible scriptures are just outright fabrications. Fabrications and lies that people will believe because that’s what they use to justify hate, intolerance and a multitude of “sins.”
When I read comments posted about Christians in general they often talk about the hypocrisy of the people of the faith. And way too often for me they ain’t wrong. At all!
